minizine is a new editorial publication made possible by university students from the united states. it aims to uplift the voices of (mainly) students by accepting submissions from the general public, as opposed to exclusively developing its own pieces in-house.
minizine is seeking contributors to help design pages, formulate and execute marketing campaigns, and develop in-house pieces. there are no minimum work requirements. contributors will be added to a group chat and be invited to join meetings to shape the publication's direction. minizine design contributors are recommended to have some prior design experience, formal or informal. any contributions can be added to personal portfolios or resumes.
anything that can be printed. photos, poems, creative writing, journalistic pieces, opinions, features, personal stories, visual art. since minizine is intended to be at least somewhat editorial, we hope to include a healthy number of pieces about current events (national, international, or local). however, there is no dedicated restriction on what anyone can submit; we will include a variety of submissions across styles, genres, and media.
this is a print publication. print copies will be available for sale online, and a free digital copy may also be made available. those who submit and have pieces printed in the final distributed publication may receive a mailed copy for free; please note that we can only provide complimentary shipping within the continental united states due to the limited advertising and production budget. for more information, see "if my piece is chosen to be printed, how do i get paid?"
minizine will likely be printed on glossy paper, similar to magazines sold in stores. we may print on matte paper if it better suits the style of submissions. binding may be done by hand or using machinery, depending on demand and sales figures. the exact dimensions and page count depend on production costs, demand, and the number of submissions, so we are unable to provide specific numeric information.
no. all revenue will go towards the cost of production, with profits being split amongst the creators of pieces printed in the final draft (more information below). revenue information and expenditure breakdowns will be published online for transparency once distribution and payouts begin.
as of now, we can only pay through venmo or mailed cash. the submission form allows users to include their venmo information if they feel comfortable sharing upfront. alternatively, the form requires an email for followups, which we will use to collect payment information if it had originally been omitted. payouts are proportional to the number of pages used; for instance, if your submissions take up 10% of all usable pages in the final copy, you will receive 10% of the payout fund. submitters may opt out of receiving a payout. payouts are not guaranteed, as they are entirely dependent on demand.
minizine does not intend to disseminate or support any particular political cause. minizine will not print pieces that present harmful viewpoints. minizine will also eliminate pieces that make factually incorrect statements.
